Hair coloring

Hair color is quite a fashion these days and is a perfect camouflage for gray hairs too. There are many types of hair color available in the market. Permanent hair color mostly has peroxide and ammonia to cover the gray hair. However, the growth of new hair creates a demarcation line and can give away the real reason behind hair coloring. Demi-permanent hair color uses low volumes of peroxide and no ammonia, causing lesser damage to hair. It covers 80% of gray hairs and lasts for more than two months. It also fades away gradually. Semi-permanent hair colors are meant to last from one week to one month and are mostly safe for hair. They can be used for fun and fad and offers only 10 to 50% cover for gray hairs. Semi-temporary hair colors stand up to 4-6 times of shampooing your hair.

Temporary hair colors are usually used for party purposes and can be easily washed off by shampooing your hair. Color rinses are good for toning hairs but do not last long. Permanent hair color opens up the outer layer of the hair so that its insoluble formula then reacts with the hair's middle layer and deposit the color permanently. It is available as creams, gels or shampoos in the color. The oxidizing agent or developer that comes with it is usually hydrogen peroxide and works as a catalyst to the oxidation chemical reaction that alters the color of the hair permanently. The developer comes in various strengths, according to the brands you are using.

* Hair colors with blue base may give a greenish cast to yellow or gold hair while those with violet base, gives more natural and better results.

* If light-reddish blonde tones fade to orange color, you can use a little red-gold accent to give fashionable highlights.

* If your current hair color is darker than the next shade chosen, use a color remover to completely lose the old tint. However, they are effective on only artificial colors and not natural hair color.
